Wildlife & Coastlines of Costa Rica

Day 1
Today you arrive in San Jose, where you will be met by one of our local representatives and transferred to your hotel for your overnight stay.White Headed Capuchin, Costa Rica
Overnight: Grano de Oro (Deluxe Room) – Located in downtown San Jose, this boutique hotel is well located for the nearby attractions in the city.

Day 2
This morning you will be met and driven to Tortuguero National park, located in the north-east of the country on the Caribbean coast.  The Tortuguero national park features a number of canals, which contain a variety of wildlife, such as Manatees, as well as Crocodiles, Caiman and Tropical Gar.  The park is also renowned for the Turtles which nest on the beaches, while the surrounding forest is home to a number of primate species.
Overnight: Mawamba Lodge - Surrounded by beautiful gardens and situated on a sand bar between the Tortuguero canals and the Caribbean Sea, Mawamba lodge has 54 Standard rooms and four Superior rooms, specially designed for Honeymoons. Rooms are simple but comfortable and include a ceiling fan (B/D)

Day 3
Today you will explore Tortuguero National Park.  This area is home to a whole variety of wildlife species and the excursions which you can arrange when you are at the lodge and are included in the cost, will help you to enjoy and experience the area.

Day 4
This morning you will be transferred to the Airstrip for your flight back to San Jose.  Upon arrival in San Jose, you will be driven to Monteverde, approximately 4 hours north of San Jose.  You will be taken straight to your hotel and the rest of your day is yours to spend at leisure.
Overnight: El Establo – Located in an area between Santa Elena and Monteverde Cloud Forests, allowing good views of the surrounding forests.  The hotel itself offers comfortable rooms which are well appointed and each featuring a terrace or a balcony (B)

Day 5
Take the opportunity to explore some of Monteverde’s cloud forest.  With your guide, you will be taken to the Garden of Hummingbirds, where a variety ofBirding in Costa Rica tiny hummingbirds can be seen.  Cloud forests are home to an interesting array of flora and fauna.

Day 6
Today you will be taken on a tour of a Coffee plantation.  Costa Rica is famed for its Coffee.  Monteverde’s volcanic soils are rich in nutrients, making it an ideal place to cultivate Coffee.  On the tour, you will see the entire process of making coffee, through from the bean on the bush, to drying, roasting and finally tasting!

Day 7
This morning, you will be met and taken to the shores of Arenal Lake.  You will embark upon a shared crossing of the lake, which will give you some fabulous views of Arenal Volcano, as well as the surrounding forests.   Upon arrival in Arenal, you will be met and taken to your hotel.
Overnight: Mountain Paradise Hotel - Located just 7km from the town of La Fortuna, the hotel is appointed with modern fittings, such as flat screen TV’s Air conditioning and wireless internet.  The rooms offer views toward Arenal Volcano (B)

Day 8
It is worth waking early, as dawn offers one of the best times to see the still active Arenal Volcano.  When the volcano is erupting, early morning is the best time to see tracks of molten Lava flowing down the sides of the volcano.
You will be taken on an excursion to view the Volcano from close quarters, followed by a trip to some Hot springs!

Day 9
After breakfast, you will be met at your hotel and driven to Manuel Antonio on the Pacific coast, a total time of approximately 4 hours.  On arrival check-in to your hotel.  The rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure.

Days 10 & 11
You have two days to enjoy Manuel Antonio National Park.  This is the only national park in Costa Rica where it is possible to see all four endemic species of primate and you will be able to arrange a visit to the national park locally.  The national park also has some pristine beaches, where you may choose to spend your time relaxing.

Day 12
You will be met and transferred back to San José, a journey of approximately 3.5 hours.  The rest of your day in San José, is yours to spend at leisure
