Borneo Holidays - Overview
Borneo Safaris and Adventure Holidays
Borneo is one of the world's most exciting safari destinations with wild orangutans and pygmy elephants, virgin rainforests, superb lodges and camps and an exciting range of wildlife tours and safaris.
Occupying a large archipelago between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, Borneo is the world's third largest island. It is partly in Malaysia (Brunei, Sarawak and Sabah - northern Borneo), and partly in Indonesia (Kalimantan - southern Borneo). Borneo is nowadays more of a geographical term rather than a political term, yet it conjures in the imagination the sense of vast rainforests, extravagant nature and colourful people.
Cut off from the mainland at the end of the last Ice Age, Borneo's topography is a mix of dramatic mountains (the highest peak is Mt Kinabalu at 4,101m), slow moving wide rivers, and swamps that have all contributed to safe guarding the island's diverse wildlife over the years.
With the predominant rains between November and January and average annual temperatures between 25-30C Borneo provides a wealth of attractions from white sandy beaches backed by luscious rainforests, world class diving and uniquely endangered forest species such as the Orang-utan, Proboscis monkey and pygmy elephant.

What to expect on your Borneo holiday: Sometimes when travelling in the interior, things may not go like clockwork. There may be times when the experienced boatmen will hold the journey for an hour or two for the roaring river to subside, travellers may have to oblige with the local customs and join in the wedding celebrations or respect taboos following a death in the village.
All these contribute to the unique experience of Borneo. Gaining knowledge of and observing local culture will make your trip all the more memorable. Borneo holidays are not the most luxurious, however they are a true experience, giving you access to some amazing wildlife, beautiful island getaways and world class diving.
