James really did an amazing job organising a trip of a lifetime. We missed high season but the trip was still excellent for animals and the Tanzania wildebeest migration. The palces James chose for us to stay at were unique and special but our favourites were Sabyinyo, Gorilla Forest Camp and Sayari Mara Camp

Matemwe Retreat

Matemwe Retreat consists of 3 fantastic cottages on a stretch of palm-fringed land with a private beach, just north of Matemwe's main lodge and opposite Mnemba Island. Each cottage is double-storied and very spacious, with their own verandah’s. On the ground floor the bedrooms are air-conditioned and lead into a bathroom with shower and a bath overlooking the Indian Ocean. Their large verandahs offer a cocktail bar and plenty of space for private dining. The top floor of each cottage features a private sun and shade terrace, a small bar and a plunge pool. Although guests will find all they need in their room and on the private beach, the facilities of Matemwe's main lodge are accessible for Retreat guests. Dining can be enjoyed in the privacy of the room or in Matemwe's main lodge. The chef stops by each day to introduce special Retreat menu suggestions and the fresh catches of the day, the specialty of Matemwe's acclaimed cuisine. Massages and beauty treatments can be enjoyed in the privacy of the roof terrace or in Matemwe's main lodge. Matemwe's friendly staff offer a very personal service to all Retreat visitors whilst maintaining the relaxed atmosphere that Matemwe is known for.

Matemwe Retreat offers all the same activities that are available at Matemwe’s main lodge but it’s personal service and intimate surroundings make it a delightful retreat.

Activities: Diving, snorkelling, swimming, dhow trips, massages, cycling, kayaking, village visits and excursions to other sights and attractions on Zanzibar.

Child Policy: Children aged 12 years and under are not allowed at Matemwe Retreat
