Northern Sumatra - Accommodation

Northern Sumatra offers basic accommodation but with some great wildlife viewing opportunities. Bukit Lawang/Pan Eco Lodge provides access to the orangutan rehabilitation centre and some great orangutan tracking in the wild whereas Tanghakan is the best location for riding elephants bareback through the forest. Both locations have great tubing down the river! What Sumatra lacks in accommodation is made up for by the friendly people and Sumatran Orangutans!

Bukit Lawang Cottages/Pan Eco Lodge

Comfortable eco-friendly accommodation located on the banks of the raging river. Ensuite bathrooms open to the night sky. The dining room provides great views down the river. This is the best accommodation available and provides good access to the orangutan rehabilitation centre.

Tanghakan

Simple accommodation providing access to the Gunung Leuser National Park. A range of local guest houses situated along the river banks. Mega's Inn provides great local atmosphere and conversation whereas the bar with the best views is located a 5min wlak further up the river.
