Best Time To Visit Madagascar

Magical Madagascar offers something for everyone; families, honeymooners and the adventurous...

The fourth largest and one of the most diverse islands of the world, Madagascar is brimming with endemic fauna and flora. This coupled with its diverse culture, geography and climate make this destination a delight for the adventurous traveler year round, although January to March tend to be very wet, and not the best time to visit Madagascar.

Climate
The weather in Madagascar varies largely depending on altitude and geographic position. The west coast is drier than the east and the central highlands, the east coast being the wettest whilst still being hot. The South and South West is Desert-like with very little rainfall.

Typically the summer (wet season) is from November to March and is hot and wet with February to March being cyclone season. The winter (dry season) is between April and October and is mainly dry and mild. The months you may wish to avoid are February and March (cyclone season) when it is likely to rain.

Wildlife
Lemur: Endemic species include over 50 types of Lemur, 100% of the Worlds wild population! The best time to view young is between October and November.

Whales: Humpback whales migrate to the waters of Madagascar to give birth and nurture their young between June and September, so this is a great time for whale watching off the east coast with Princesse Bora Lodge providing the luxury accommodation to make you feel at home.

Amphibians and Reptiles: The Best time to see these is generally in the wetter months of January – March. Having said that, you are likely to get good quality sightings year round with Andasibe National Park being one of the best locations.
