Palmarium Lodge, The Pangalanes Canal

Palmarium Lodge

Submerged within thick vegetation, small lodges scatter the banks of the Pangalanes. The Palmarium Lodge is one of these.  Just two hours by boat from Tamatave, with clean and spacious rooms, all en-suite with lake views.

There are 10 different lemur species living here and, although wild, some are very confident and it is a great chance to get close to these creatures, endemic to Madagascar, for some fantastic photo opportunities!

  • Several comfortable bungalows
  • No swimming pool
  • Children welcome
  • Great for photography

Style: A comfortable nature lodge.

Setting: Located on the banks of the Pangalanes on Lake Ampitabe and the Indian Ocean, the setting is both beautiful and interesting with lots of wildlife to discover.

Accommodation & facilities: The traditional thatched bungalows, made from local wood such as bamboo, are all spacious and comfortable. The rooms have hard floors and white walls, with large double or twin beds draped in mosquito netting, a rug and a stand for a bedside lamp. This then leads through the en-suite bathroom where the toilet is separated by a curtain for a little more privacy. Bungalows all have private wooden decked terraces with bamboo and fabric chairs, a table and a hammock – a great place to relax in the afternoons.

The restaurant carries on with the wood and thatch theme and has lots of individual tables so guests can dine in privacy. There is also a nice solid wooden bar with bar stools and some pretty gardens to explore!

Dining: The restaurant serves typical Madagascan as well as international food including seasonal fish and fresh fruit and vegetables and delicious homemade desserts.

Activities: The surrounding reserve is great for photographers and nature enthusiasts with 10 different lemur species resident, including sifakas and the odd Indri.

Child policy: Children of all ages are welcome but there are no facilities.
