Vamizi Island

Working with the stunning Vamizi Island, this beautiful resort uses everything nature has to offer to make it utterly luxurious, rekindling your connection with the outdoors. Sat on a long, thin stretch of land in the far north of the Quirimbas Archipelago, you can walk the entire width of Vamizi Island in just 45 minutes, giving you a real sense of island life.

Exclusively romantic and sublimely beautiful, accommodation is in timber villas scattered along one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. With no mod cons, this is a wonderful way to lose yourself and forget about urban life. To top it all off, you’ll find some of the most incredible diving, right on your ‘doorstep’…

  • 13 Timber villas
  • Fully equipped dive centre
  • Children welcome
  • Great for diving & honeymoons

Style: Barefoot luxury

Setting: Villas are set back a little into the greenery, spaced out along the powdery white beaches of Vamizi Island, in the north of the Quirimbas Archipelago, not too far from the coast of Tanzania. Access is via private flight.

Accommodation & Facilities: Each of the spacious and airy villas have been made with the help of the locals and local materials, made as open as possible to the outside world. Styled using wood and thatch, even the windows have no glass, encouraging the natural sea breeze. African art is dotted around these huge spaces, yet they are uncluttered and minimalistic, using only neutral colours. Villas are available with one or two rooms, the latter great for families, all with open plan showers, which itself is made from marble, and twin vanities. Rooms have wonderfully comfortable beds and open deck areas, great areas for relaxing.

Newly created, designed by South African architects, the new private villas are ideal for larger groups or families, sleeping up to 12 guests. There are 5 en-suite rooms, private deck and beach, ample spacious social areas and a wonderful salt water plunge pool.

The main areas include a large lounge and bar with open sides and wooden decking on the floor, as well as lots of African art and carvings, carrying on the theme of the rooms. The restaurant is in a separate area, shady and natural feeling, even here you can dine without shoes and feel completely uncomfortable, however if you can’t bear to leave your villa, there is a mini bar and private dining options available.

Dining: There is always fresh fish and seafood bought to the lodge by local fisherman and a huge variety of meat and vegetarian cuisine to choose from. Food is delicious and well prepared, glamorous cocktails and wines are available at the bar or you can take the ‘shipwrecked’ approach and enjoy a sumptuous packed lunch on a deserted beach.

Activities: There are a selection of dives around the island, some of the best you will come across with a huge variety of marine life and clear waters. If you fancy some big game fishing, you can hire a boat out for the day and go in search of sailfish, marlin, tuna and giant trevally. You can go whale watching by boat between August and October, when the humpback whales migrate up the coast or even float around in a dhow, dolphins at your sides. Otherwise, just sit back, relax and enjoy the incredible vistas that will open out to you each and every day…

On land you can explore the bush in search of monkeys or birds, walk the miles of powdery white sands or watch on as the family splash around with kayaks or snorkels.

Child Policy: Children are welcome; three rooms are specifically designed as family rooms and the local guides and instructors are great for showing them a little adventure on land and at sea.
