Costa Rica Wildlife and Beaches Family Safari – From £1,135 Per Adult & £550 Per Child, Excluding International Flights

*Based on 2 adults sharing a twin or double (10 & over) and 2 children (9 & under) sharing a twin room.

Day 1
Arrive in San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital city. where you will be met at the Airport and transferred to your hotel.
Overnight: Doubletree Cariari by Hilton – Conveniently located close to the Airport, this hotel is well appointed and is an ideal choice for those who are just spending a single night before their onward journey.Tortuguero Beach

Day 2
This morning you will be met and driven to Tortuguero National Park, located in the north-east of the country on the Caribbean coast. The Tortuguero National Park features a number of canals, which contain a variety of wildlife, such as manatees, crocodiles, caiman and tropical gar. The park is renowned for the turtles which nest on the beaches and at night you can get remarkably close during season as they make their way up to the sand to lay their eggs. The surrounding lush forest plays home to a number of primate species, such as Spider Monkeys and Mantled Howlers which, as the name suggests, you will probably hear before you see!
Overnight: Mawamba Lodge - Surrounded by beautiful gardens and situated on a sand bar between the Tortuguero canals and the Caribbean Sea, Mawamba lodge has 54 Standard rooms and four Superior rooms. Rooms are simple but comfortable and include a ceiling fan (B/D)

Day 3
Today you will explore Tortuguero National Park, admire the spectacular wildlife of the region through a range of activities that can be arranged through the lodge; visit the frog, iguana and butterfly farms, join a twilight walking tour, early morning or sunset tour or even try your hand at a spot of fishing.

Day 4
After breakfast, you will transfer by boat back to Caño Blanco, where you will continue by bus to the Rio Danta Restaurant for lunch, after which you will be met and transferred on to Sarapiqui.
Overnight: La Quinta de Sarapiqui – This eco-lodge has been certified by the Costa Rican government, given a 5 leaves rating – the highest rating available.  The rooms are comfortable and feature good facilities including Air conditioning and private porches from where you can enjoy the view over the gardens from the comfort of the Rocking chairs and Hammocks (B/L) 

Day 5
After breakfast you will be met and taken to Corsicana Farm, certified as organic and well known for its Pineapples.  Eco-tourism has grown substantially in Costa Rica and Corsicana has responded by introducing the Pineapple tour where you can learn about the entire cultivation process.  The restaurant is a splendid spot to dine, then the rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure.

Day 6
Today you can enjoy a hike to La Selva Biological station, where two of the country’s major rivers converge in the Caribbean lowlands.  The station covers approximately 1600 hectares of tropical forest and you can find around 1,000 tree species, 420 bird species and around half the mammal species found in the whole of Costa Rica. Snakes slither on the ground, capuchin monkeys, mantled howlers and spider monkeys relax in the trees and sloths can sometimes be seen slowly making their way from A to B, stopping to feast on tasty leaves. There is even the possibility of seeing jaguars, margay, jaguarondi and a myriad of reptile and amphibian species is this incredibly wildlife rich area.

Day 7
Today you will be transferred to Arenal for a day of leisure. Standing at about 5,437 feet, Arenal Volcano is the most active in the whole of Costa Rica and surrounded by fertile northern lowlands and an abundance of activities. After 400 years of inactivity, it sprang to life in 1968, having calmed down it is now a sightseers dream, imposing its symmetrical shape on landscapes for miles around. Early morning and late at night are the best times to see it, tonight you might be able to see the lava flow downs its sides, glowing against the dark skies.
Overnight: Mountain Paradise Hotel - Located just 7km from the town of La Fortuna, the hotel is appointed with modern fittings, such as flat screen TV’s Air conditioning and wireless internet. The rooms offer views toward Arenal Volcano (B)

Day 8
As the sun rises, the view of Arenal is spectacular, the trails of lava clear on its slopes. It’s well worth waking early this morning!

You will be taken on an excursion to view the Volcano from close quarters, followed by a trip to some Hot springs.

Day 9
After breakfast today you will head to Tamarindo, a natural playground with rich diversity and some spectacular wildlife. The journey here will take about 4 hours and you will have the rest of the day to enjoy as you please.
Overnight: Capitan Suizo – Very spacious hotel, with a total of just 11 rooms.  This hotel is in a good location in Tamarindo, ideal for relaxing at the end of a Costa Rican adventure!

Days 10, 11Arenal Volcano
Tamarindo has some of the safest beaches in terms of bathing in Costa Rica; the currents aren’t as strong as some other coastal areas so it is great for kids and adults alike. Spend two days in the wonderful Capitan Suizo, making the most out of your time left in Costa Rica!

Day 12
After breakfast, you will be taken back to the international airport in San Jose – a journey of approximately 4 hours – in time to meet your onward flight (B)
