Borneo - Guides

World Primate Safaris uses local guides wherever possible in each destination that we offer. We belive that local guides offer that little bit more that can make the difference between a good safari and a great safari. For ease of reference we have listed details of some of our guides below:

Tham Yau Kong - having won best Malaysian tour guide on numerous occasions Tham's knowledge is evident. A knowledgeable and friendly local guide who will ensure you make the most of your safari! Born in 1961 on the island of Labuan. Graduated with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 1982 and worked in an engineering firm for 8 years. Due to influential friends he joined the Malaysian Tour Guide Course in 1989 organized by the Federal Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism.

Chris Lo - commenced as a tour guide by profession in 1990 and has been a member of our team since 1996 whereby he trekked extensively into Long Pasia, Trusmadi, Crocker Range, mountain biking etc. He has also explored the wetland tourism potential in Beluran. In recent years he has concentrated more on historical tourism.

C.K. Leong - Having worked in tourism for more than 20 years C.K. is our resident birding expert. For clients interested in birds C.K.'s knowledge is insurpassable. Borneo is home to a wide variety of birds however due to the thick rainforest canopy we recommend C.K.'s services in order that he can maximise your viewing opportunities.

Maik Miki - A member of the team since 1998 where he had his first adventure expedition after leaving school. He had joined the WALKERS OF BORNEO expedition for a week before he enrolled into a technical college in Papar. Finishing his education in the technical college, due to his love in tourism, a hospitality and service industry, he ended up concentrating on his family business, i.e in the Miki Survival Camp providing jungle survival knowledge that he has learnt from his ancestors to the visitors to the campsite. Maik is also involved in finding the Sandakan Ranau Death March track in 2004.
