Where is the Best Diving in Borneo?
From beginners to advances; there's something for everyone in Borneo...
Borneo has a great selection of beaches and tropical islands and makes for a great place for a beach holiday. The coral reefs in these areas are fantastic with a vast array of different fishes and marine life.
The best place to dive is definitely the world famous Sipadan islands known as one of the big fish capitals of the world. There are around 20 main dive sites in this area, so beginners and experienced divers will find something perfect for them. All sorts of different marine life can be found from thousands of barracuda, turtles and many different species of shark. Nowadays you are not allowed to stay at Sipadan Island and so the best way to dive here is staying a short boat ride away at either Kapalai or Mabul Islands.
Nearby Mataking is now making a name for itself in the dive world, with macro diving it is slightly out o f the way to experience Sipadan but it is possible for a day via an 80 minute speed boat journey.
Lankayan is a known turtle nesting site and recently has introduced diving into the area, although perhaps not up to the quality of the Sipadan reefs there is still lots to see here with Whale Sharks almost guaranteed during the months of April and May. Lankayan Island boasts a number of wreck sites, macro diving and coral reefs.
