How long do I need for a Borneo Wildlife Safari?

Timing your Borneo Safari!

Most of our Borneo safaris usually run anything from 8 nights up to 14 nights long. It is possible to have a good wildlife experience with as little as 5 nights but it would not be recommended, especially when travelling all the way from London as the flights to Borneo can take up to fifteen hours. To really experience the different jungles and for the best chances of spotting as much wildlife as possible the more time spent in the jungles the better. At the Danum Valley a minimum of three nights would be recommended with a stay of four nights really maximising your chances of finding all the animals you would like to see. A two night stay at the Kinabatangan River would be the bare minimum time spent with most people choosing to stay for three or four nights.

It is worth spending a night at the Sepilok Nature Reserve as this gives you an up close introduction to the Borneo orang-utan. It is not possible to touch the orang-utans as they are dependant animals and re-introducing them to the wild can be difficult as they get attached to the wardens who look after them. It is however a fabulous lodge set within the jungle of the reserve and so gives you a great chance of seeing these incredible apes.

Most people like to finish with some beach and there are some amazing beaches on the islands (Lankayan Island for one!) off the east coast. A stay of three to five nights is normal making the full length of the Borneo safari around 12 nights long.
