Imagine a private paradise cradled between forested hills and a long sweep of a 3 km long, untouched, pristine beach, washed by the South China Sea. Find your very own Shangri-La here at the Rasa Ria Resort, set on Pantai Dalit beach and surrounded by 400 acres of lush tropical vegetation including a unique nature reserve. Here you will meet Sabah's icon, the Orang-utan, amidst a remarkable array of indigenous flora and fauna. Surprising encounters with hornbills gliding right overhead, peacocks displaying during breakfast, a bear cat greeting you from a tree or the occasional iguana crossing your path are all part of the magic of this remarkable resort.
Overnight: Rasa Ria (B)
Day 3
This morning you will be transferred back to Kota Kinabalu Airport for your short flight to Sandakan where you will be transferred to Sepilok. You’ll have some time to relax, or head out to the Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary. Here, previously captive orang-utans, through poaching or deforestation, are being re-habituated to their natural surroundings, ready for their release back into the wild. Seeing them here is completely different to seeing them in the wild as you navigate wooden planks as they swing about around you playing and foraging for food. The food provided for them at ‘meal times’ is deliberately bland in attempt to encourage them to stand on their own two feet and actively seek out tastier cuisine.
Overnight: Sepilok Nature Resort - hidden amongst the lush green tropical forests of Borneo, these timber bungalows offer the traveller every comfort after a day in the forest. Hot baths are a welcome comfort, as are the Orang-utans that you will often find on your veranda in the morning! Views over the lake through the swirling mists are an added pleasure to be enjoyed (B/L/D)
Day 4
Watch the jungle come to life before your eyes as the sun rises over the canopy before returning to the lodge for breakfast, then witnessing the morning and afternoon feeding of the Orang-utans. A visit to the Sanctuary will allow you to come in close contact with the remarkable "man of the forest", just as wonderful for adults as it is for children. It is interesting and exciting to watch as these large red apes are astonishingly gentle, highly intelligent and will gaze at you with almost disconcerting frankness. In the evening set off into the jungle in search of the nocturnal jungle wildlife.
Overnight: Sepilok Nature Resort (B/L/D)
Day 5, 6
Transfer by land to Bilit at Ulu Kinabatangan, where you will have the best opportunities to see orang-utans in the wild. Similar to Sukau but not quite as developed Bilit rests on the banks of the Kinabatangan River and has the second highest density of wild Orang-utans in the whole of Borneo. Today and tomorrow are spent exploring this area of mangrove and rainforest either on foot or by boat. The river safari visits a variety of fauna and flora along the banks of the Kinabatangan River including Orang-utans and proboscis monkeys, tree snakes, crocodiles, civets, monitor lizards, macaques an
d much more. Sumatran Rhinos have been spotted here (although fairly rare) and herds of wild elephant often pass through the park.
Overnight: Myne Resort – is located on the banks of the Kinabatangan River amidst the backdrop of the wildlife forest reserve, providing access to some great wildlife viewing. Each individual wooden room has air conditioning, a ceiling fan and bathroom facilities with hot showers (B/L/D)
Day 7
Today you make your way southwards to the renowned Danum Valley where you can sit back, relax and absorb your spectacular surroundings. Danum Valley is one of the best remaining examples of how Borneo's forests used to be, with a thick tropical canopy and a variety of endeering wildlife and birds.
Overnight: Borneo Rainforest Lodge, Standard Room - locally crafted bungalows connected by a walkway and perched along the bank of the river with views into the rainforest (B/L/D)
Days 8, 9
Danum Valley was set up to protect the area from logging and encompasses 43km2 of pristine rainforest. Aside from this the conservation area has a variety of wildlife including, Orang-utans, a variety of birdlife, clouded leopard, elephant and if one is very lucky the Sumatran rhino. With both a canopy walkway and a viewpoint which looks out over the jungle canopy and the dramatic mountains this conservation area is definitely worth dropping in on and you will have two days to fully make the most of it.
Overnight: Borneo Rainforest Lodge, Standard Room (B/L/D)
Day 10

White sand beaches and some excellent diving ensure that this is the perfect end to your Borneo safari.
