Best Time To Visit Borneo
Track Orang-utans in the Wild, Climb the wonderful Mt. Kinabalu, Watch Turtles hatching and snorkel clear turquoise waters...
Borneo is one of the world's most exciting safari destinations with wild orang-utans and pygmy elephants, virgin rainforests, superb lodges and camps and an exciting range of wildlife tours and safaris. Owing to its climate, it is a great destination to visit year round, although November to February is the wet season and not regarded as the best time to visit Borneo.
Climate
Borneo has an equatorial-tropical climate and the average temperature is 27 degrees C. Generally the dry season occurs between April and November and the wet (‘northeast monsoon’) between December and March. You can however get down pours and floods in the dry season and the monsoon rains in the wet season can quickly dry up and clear into blue skies!
Visitors should not be put off by the seasons; tropical showers rarely last for any length of time and can be cooling from the humidity. This is the rainforest after all!
Wildlife
Orang-utan Tours: Borneo is home to about 90% of the worlds Orang-utans, the other 10% being in Sumatra. The best time to see these ‘Men of the Forest’ is while the trees are fruiting in the summer months between March and October (peak being June, July, August time) as they come lower down to feast, they would eat a diet of 100% fruit if they could!
Turtle: Borneo is also a great place to see Turtles, the summer months between June and September are great especially around August as this is when the eggs are hatching.
Festivals and Events
Borneo has a number of interesting events and festivals which are definitely worth attending should your schedule permit.
July Rainforest World Music Festival

Visitors are welcome to join in with festivities but should always observe religious and private gatherings from a respectful distance, unless invited to join in!
Public holidays
Main Christian, Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu festivals are celebrated.

Flight costs tend to increase over Christmas and also the peak summer months. Park fees remain the same year round.
